Introduction
My name is Robert Wilking. I am running as a candidate for Cincinnati City Council.
I work at a small business here in the city of Cincinnati. I am running because I believe small businesses, particularly business-to-business enterprises, are the best hope for economic development in the city's future.
Cincinnati gets approximately 2/3 of its revenue from payroll taxes, either from residents of the city or people who work in the city but live elsewhere. This revenue also includes profits from businesses operating here in the city. The City has done much in the last ten years to boost its population with housing development. However, its business development has focused much on places where you spend money. This needs to change. We now need to focus on bringing and attracting industries that will provide full time job growth. Where this anticipated growth will be in the next 10 years will be with small businesses, particularly those involved in either producing or utilizing technology & innovation.
